Our Purpose

To break the generational cycles of trauma and addiction.

Our Vision

A community that is free of addiction.

Our Mission

To lead those displaced by addiction through care, support, and education into long-term recovery.

Acceptance Recovery Center is a long-term, intensive recovery program for individuals with Substance Use Disorder that assess as high risk/need. Located in Athens, Georgia, we offer a therapeutic setting in which residents receive structure, accountability, and evidence-based recovery support services. Certified through THOR (Transitional Housing for Offender Reentry), GARR (Georgia Association of Recovery Residences), and RPH (Reentry Partnership Housing), our program is designed to provide a healthy structure of accountability for those in need of more than a traditional sober living home. We serve men, women, transgender and non-binary individuals, pregnant & postpartum individuals, veterans, individuals who are prescribed MAT medications, criminal-justice involved individuals, and members of many other diverse backgrounds.

Our Values

  • Invite Connection
  • Model Integrity
  • Encourage Growth
  • Cultivate Teamwork
  • Promote Recovery
  • Engage Community

About Acceptance Recovery Center

  • Long-term, intensive recovery residence located in Athens, Georgia.
  • Therapeutic setting of evidence-based recovery support services.
  • Gender-specific services for high-risk/need individuals with a primary Substance-Use Disorder.
  • Healthy structure of accountability for those that could benefit from more than a traditional, sober-living home.

What We Do

  • Provide a safe, structured, and healthy environment for the residents.
  • Maintain consistent and timely communication with all supervising parties.
  • Deliver services that facilitate freedom from active addiction and promote a lifestyle of recovery.
  • Balance community safety and resident recovery goals.
  • Establish and maintain abstinence from alcohol and other drugs, as well as criminal behavior.
  • Reinforce honesty, respect, integrity, and accountability.
  • Reduce criminal recidivism.
“What sets us aside from other recovery residences is the level of proven structure and accountability each resident is required to abide by in order to participate in the program. Our residents are required to attend local community support meetings and maintain employment, all while completing evidence-based groups such as MRT, Prime Solutions, and other cognitive-behavioral therapies. Our program is not merely targeting a change of behavior. We are working with our residents to help them change the way they think so they can change their behavior, thus reducing the incarceration, homelessness, and recidivism rates in Georgia.”

Core Treatment Modalities:

  • Trauma-Informed Care:
Recognizing the prevalence of trauma in individuals with substance use disorders, our program adapts approaches to avoid re-traumatization and residents are treated with sensitivity and respect in a safe, supportive environment.
  • Motivational Interviewing (MI):
MI is a person-centered method that helps residents enhance motivation for recovery by exploring their personal reasons for change and increasing commitment to treatment.
  • Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT):
While we do not prescribe medications directly as part of our services, we recognize that MAT is a valuable component of recovery for individuals with opioid, alcohol, or other substance use disorders. We offer supportive care to residents who are prescribed MAT by an external medical provider and our approach focuses on collaborative care- working closely with residents and their providers to ensure that MAT is integrated effectively into their recovery plan.
  • Group Counseling:
Group counseling is an essential component of our approach, providing residents with opportunities for shared learning and peer support. Groups are led by trained staff and foster a sense of community, accountability, and social connection, all of which are vital for sustained recovery.
  • Family Counseling and Education:
Addiction affects the entire family, and healing the family system is an integral part of the recovery process. Our family restoration component involves loved ones to improve communication, resolve conflicts, and strengthen relationships. We offer a monthly group for families to better understand addiction and support their loved one’s recovery journey, as well as individual family counseling sessions with their loved one throughout the duration of the program.
  • Holistic Therapies (Optional):
We offer referral to various alternative therapies such as yoga, art therapy, music therapy, and animal therapy. These modalities promote overall wellness, emotional expression, and stress reduction. Holistic therapies provide residents with alternative methods to support their recovery and enhance self-awareness and self-care.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT):
Is an effective modality that helps residents identify and change negative thought patterns and behaviors. By challenging distorted thinking, CBT helps residents develop healthy coping skills, manage emotions, and reduce the risk of relapse. We incorporate CBT into our programs to support lasting recovery, improve problem-solving, and promote positive behavioral change.
  • Peer Support:
Is a key component of our program, offering residents the opportunity to connect with others who have lived through similar experiences. Peer support specialists provide guidance, support, and encouragement, helping residents feel understood and less isolated. Peer support fosters empowerment, builds hope, and strengthens the recovery process.
