Roses are Red, Addiction is Blue,
    If You are Struggling,
ARC is Here to Help You!

This month as Acceptance Recovery Center celebrates the yearly Valentine’s Day ritual, we will be holding a special place in our hearts for the addicts and alcoholics still struggling with the harrowing and deadly disease of addiction. We have contemplated those presently sick and suffering so much that we named our February 2017 fundraiser “Valentines for the Still Sick and Suffering.”

Sunday, February 11, we will set our table up at the “Handmade Lovers” event hosted by Indie South Fair at the Cotton Press located at 149 Oneta Street in Athens, Georgia. Our primary purpose will be to raise donations for our Indigent Fund at ARC. The Indigent Fund allows us to reach people who do not have the funds to get started in treatment, yet they have the true desire to attempt a clean life in recovery. Our current residents spent last Saturday making beautiful handmade cards for our event “Valentines for the Still Sick and Suffering.” These cards are made even more meaningful by the fact that they were crafted by men who have sought recovery through ARC. We will also have baked goods and handmade jewelry offered at suggested donation pricing.

The gift of recovery is comprised of hard work, trials and errors, steep pathways, and a solid measure of grace. As we all celebrate the strength, power, and precious experience of LOVE this month, let us offer our love to those lost in the darkness who are searching for the smallest ember of light. Let our love be the light that guides our lost sisters and brothers home to the glow of recovery.

Spread love everywhere you go. Let no one ever come to you without leaving happier.

    – Mother Teresa

“Valentines for the Still Sick and Suffering,” our ARC booth, will offer an array of beautiful, handmade valentine cards, baked goods, and handmade jewelry.

This will be an outstanding opportunity to support ARC, our residents, and our friend who are still lost in addiction. We are 501(c)3 organization. All contributions are tax-deductible.

We will see you there to spread love and awareness about addiction and recovery.

    Anonymous Superstar

Our Anonymous Superstar this month is a young man working to get clean from an eight year addiction to opiates, especially pain medications. After multiple stints in jail and a visible path of destruction created a divide between our friend and his family and friends, he decided to make the leap to change his life.

ARC appealed to our Anonymous Superstar, because it is a new program and he believes that the program adjustments that have happened in the last year are gearing him toward life beyond the walls of treatment. He is especially fond of the way that staff truly care for the residents and look out for their best interests.

When our friend finishes the program he wants to complete his college degree, get a job in collision repair, and breed German Rottweilers. Last but not least, his dream is to take care of his family and use the tools of his recovery to help others. Sounds like this Superstar is headed for super success!

MLK, JR. Service Day Paved the Pathway to Landscaping Success for ARC

Service Spotlight – MLK, Jr. Day of Service Participants

This month we had a treasure trove of awesome volunteers donating time and energy to the beautification and preparation of ARC’s garden beds. We had a great turn out on MLK, Jr. Day of Service. Please read about some of these outstanding assets to the Athens and ARC community:

Meagan B. and her mother Annette – Meagan is new to Athens, GA to attend grad school at UGA for her Learning, Leadership, and Organizational Development degree. She and her mother Annette made the day one of service as well as quality mother and daughter time. Meagan said that volunteering helps her “exercise my leadership skills and incorporate service work into my life.”

Ellis – As a man who has dealt with alcohol issues himself and has 3 years in recovery, Ellis wanted to volunteer on behalf of his church, Ekklesia Athens, and give back to people who are on their own path to sobriety. He fulfills his life by volunteering to enlarge his “faith and service work.”

Trisha B. – As a UGA staff member with a Masters in Higher Education, Trisha loves gardening and volunteer work, so choosing ARC for her MLK, Jr. Day of Service project was a natural choice. She loves the Athens community and started volunteering in the community garden at her apartment complex.

Jake B. – Jake is earning a B.S. in Horticulture at UGA so that he can one day work in a greenhouse. His main motivation is to enrich the earth with as many plants as possible. He was very helpful in determining the layout of plants.

Kathy and Mike – a married couple who signed up through the Athens-Clarke County website, Mike is a master gardener. Both said that they think it is a good idea to help their community.

Mark – Pastor of Ekklesia Athens, Mark has helped ARC since the beginning. For the MLK, Jr. Service Day, he brought his tiller to the property and tilled compost into the garden.

ARC Residents and Team – special mention of incredibly hard work goes out to Kristina McFadden, ARC’s Administrative and Program Wonder Woman. Residents who put major work into the project are Robbie, Victor, Herb, and Chris.
