Our History of Community Support & Equity

In 2020, amidst the heightened challenges of the global pandemic, Acceptance Recovery Center established a dedicated support initiative to address critical barriers facing our residents—including housing instability, loss of employment, childcare shortages, and limited access to essential resources.

To bridge these gaps, we created the Resident Access & Stability Fund (historically funded as our Indigent Fund) to ensure that financial barriers never stand in the way of recovery and personal growth. Data from our intake assessments highlights the vital need for this resource, with 91% of incoming residents having navigated homelessness, low-to-no income status, or extreme financial hardship prior to entering our care.

Thanks to generous donors and community grant partnerships, this initiative continues to empower individuals and families:

    • 2020–2021 Impact ($90,000 Raised):
Supported 232 residents by covering residential admission fees, funding vital workplace documentation (driver’s licenses, Social Security cards, and work gear), and providing emergency medical and dental assistance.
    • 2022–2023 Expansion ($100,005 CDBG Funding):
Awarded Community Development Block Grant funding through the Cares Act and the Athens-Clarke County Government. These funds provided direct rental assistance, childcare support, and foundational enrollment aid for 182 residents and their children.
    • Ongoing Community Impact:
Since inception, this fund has provided a life-changing foundation for hundreds of individuals, equipping them with the stability, dignified resources, and career-readiness tools needed to build sustainable self-reliance.

    Annual Impact Summary:

    • 2020: 111 residents supported
    • 2021: 121 residents supported
    • 2022–2023: 182 residents and their children supported
    • 2025: 167 residents and their children supported

Indigent funds contribute to building a stronger and more supportive recovery community and foster a sense of dignity and self-sufficiency for the individuals served. Since our most recent grant funding ended last year, we diligently work to secure future donors and grant funding to keep our Indigent Fund active.

In 2027, we will use our current limited indigent funds to help our residents meet their basic needs and support them with admission and weekly fee assistance.
