Dear Friends,

One of the best parts of this job is talking to and hearing from neighbors, families, business owners, and friends from our community. Whether it’s meeting folks in my hometown or traveling to a site across the district, I’ve already had some great visits throughout the 10th District this August.

On Thursday, I started the day by hearing from local doctors and medical professionals at the TenderCare Clinic, a community health center located in Greensboro. These federally funded facilities are the backbone of the healthcare system and play a vital role in serving rural areas. As we celebrated National Health Center Week, I was grateful to see TenderCare Clinic’s incredible work firsthand, and I’m dedicated to ensuring its future successes.

Afterwards, I dropped by the Greene County Farm Bureau to meet and speak with President Charles Crumbly and other members to discuss immigration issues, disaster aid, and other local news items. Thanks so much for having me!

At lunchtime, I joined the Rotary Club of Greene and Putnam Counties for a legislative update. We talked about a range of topics, including my recent trip to the southern border, the budget deal, and the heartbreaking events that recently occurred in El Paso and Dayton. The tragedies that our Nation experienced were sickening, hate-filled acts of terror. Racism, bigotry, white supremacy, and acts of bloodshed have no place in America.

My next stop was to Pure Beauty Farms, a 125-acre wholesale nursery that employs 45 full-time and 40 part-time employees. During the tour, we discussed the Greensboro site’s growth over the years and how it is implementing water-saving and recycling methods into its operation. What a great visit, thanks for having me!

Later in the day, I caught up with folks in Oglethorpe County for an unveiling ceremony of the Foundations of American Law and Government document display in its courthouse. As the former president of Ten Commandments-Georgia and pastor of Bethlehem First Baptist Church, I know that these displays are paving the way for communities to further educate their citizens regarding the history and background of our system of governance.

Afterwards, I toured the town of Maxeys and sat down with city officials to discuss grant opportunities for community development. Such an awesome area, thanks for sharing your tradition of southern hospitality with me.

I wrapped up the day by honoring a great group of heroes at the Grace Community Church in Greensboro. In coordination with the Georgia Department of Veterans Service, I was thrilled to issue certificates of recognition and lapel pins to local Vietnam veterans. Of the many important issues that I deal with as a Member of Congress, those involving our veterans are of the highest priority. To every American warrior, thank you for your service.

Monday was a jam-packed day in Athens, where I started my time at the Acceptance Recovery Center to learn about its drug and alcohol rehabilitation program. By providing a comprehensive and affordable approach to recovery for those affected by addiction, this center is bringing a unique perspective to healing.

Next, I stopped by St. Mary’s Hospital for a tour of the facility and spoke with healthcare professionals. Since its opening in 1906, St. Mary’s has cared for the people of Northeast Georgia and currently offers a comprehensive range of services to the surrounding community, including Clarke, Oconee, Oglethorpe, Madison, Jackson, Barrow, and Walton counties. As a member of Trinity Health, it is licensed for 196 beds and was named Georgia’s Large Hospital of the Year in 2018. I’m grateful to have an outstanding institution that values the quality of care right here in the 10th District.

I rounded out the day by visiting Bone Dry Roofing in Bogart. Founded in 2003, this small business is a full service residential and commercial roofing company serving the Southeast and employs 30 workers in the area. Thanks for showing me your operation!
